The information below covers the basics of our PSD Press guides and includes a few examples of design technique. Please contact support@prodpi.zendesk.com with any questions! We will be using a 5x5 Flat Card and a 5x5 MOD Fancy 01 as sample guide for this PDF.

Press Guides

1. RED = Cutting Zone. The RED area of the guide represents where the trimming will occur when your cards are cut down. It is important to note that in some guides the red area bleeds all the way to the edge, but in all cases the entire RED area must be filled with information. The trimming can and will occur anywhere within that RED border so it is extremely important that your image/design also bleed all the way to the edge.

2. BLUE = Suggest Border Thickness. The interior blue line indicates the size that your border must be if you are creating a design with a border. If you are not using a border in your design, this blue line is not important. Text, image and logos can all be safely located outside the blue line as long as they do not go into the RED cutting zone.

NOTE: Text, image and logos can all be safely located outside the blue line as long as they do not go into the RED cutting zone.

File Sizing

With all ProDPI Press products your file size must be larger than your final card size so that we have additional room to trim in processing. For almost all press products this means an additional .25" on each dimension. Each of our press guides will be sized to the exact specifications of what we print so as long as your final submitted file is the same size as the guide, everything will print correctly. If you do not size your file to the same specifications of the guide it will be enlarged or cropped to fit the printing area and you will lost information that you may not be expecting to lose.

Suggested Design Techniques

1. In this example the image has been cropped to the exact size of the guide, making the design full bleed. This is the #1 suggest method of design. Also, the text is safely located inside of the RED cutting zone.
2. In this example the image has been cropped to include a border on all four sides. The border comes all the way in to the BLUE suggested border thickness line.

Discouraged Design Techniques

1. In this design the image has been cropped just up to the RED bleed line. If processed this will leave very uneven and thin green borders around each side becaue trimming will occur somewhere within the RED border.
2. In this design the image has been cropped to exactly 5x5 and comes all the way into the center of the RED cutting zone. If processed this will leave even thinner uneven slivers of the green border because of the trimming tolerance. Also, the text goes partially into the RED area which means that it will most likely be partially trimmed off.

MOD Press Guides

1. RED = Cutting Zone. The RED area of the guide represents where the trimming will occur when your cards are cut down. The trimming can and will occur anywhere within that RED border so it is extremely important that your image/design fill this area completely and it is best if it fills the guide all the way to the edge.
2. BLUE = Suggest Border Thickness. The interior blue border indicates the size that yours must be if you are creating a design with a border. If you are not using a border in your design, this blue area is not important. Text, image and logos can all be safely located within the blue line as long as they do not go into the RED cutting zone.
3. Gray outside border. This area represents what will definitely be lost in processing, however it is always suggested that this area still be completely filled with image or design.

Suggested MOD Design Technique

1. In this example the image has been cropped to include a border on all four sides. The border comes all the way in to the BLUE suggested border thickness line. The text is safely located within the blue area and does not bleed into or touch the RED cutting zone.
2. In this example the image has been cropped to the exact size of the guide, making the design full bleed. This is the #1 suggest method of design.

Discouraged MOD Design Technique

1. In this design the text has been placed all the way at the edge of the design with parts of the letters in the RED cutting zone. Parts of the type will most likely be trimmed during processing if left this way.
2. Here you can see that the image has been sized fill the entire RED cutting zone but does not extend past it. If processed this can leave thin uneven slivers just around the edges.
3. In this design the image has been cropped just up to the RED cutting zone, only filling in the BLUE. If processed this will leave very uneven and thin borders around each side becaue trimming will occur somewhere within the RED border.
